172 speedo signal

Hi,
I have a clio 172 which has had a replacement gearbox with no speedo sensor hole. Does anyone know what the pulserate is on these boxes? Ideally I need to know how many pulses the dash sees per revolution of the diff and then I can rig up an alternative sender.

apparently can be set with clip to take speed from the abs sensors.

This suggests its a single wire from the ABS module

It would be ideal if I could simply switch it over to run from the ABS, or failing that, from a megnetic wheel sensor and a conventional external pickup and a pulse converter module

it is done with canbus and magic!! afik takes the speed from all of the sensors and takes an average and than uses that from the abs to the dash.

reason i said 'apparently' is i've heard mixed things about getting the car to get the speed signal from the abs side instead of the speed sensor, few people not been able to get it sorted that way. not even tried it myself so got to say pass on if it can or can't actually be done.
