182-problems

  Mars Red Clio V6 255

had my 182 now for 3 weeks and very impressed with the car overall, handles very well almost as good as my old elise so better then my z3m, straight line speed is ok not great really have to wait til the magic 5000rpm til the power kicks in, before that it feels very tight. had a drive in my cousins tt the other day and must admit i felt a lot of difference in the performance the tt has a lot more go and can feel the push when the turbo kicks in, thats what i guess is missing from the clio is that push through the gears, and living around london i find it very hard to reach the magic 5000rpm mark.

but overall very impressed with the car and great value for money, there are just 2 things that are slightly wrong the first being there is a whistling noise coming from the wheels i think on the drivers side when i go above about 30 mph, not a loud noise but never goes away, any ideas??

2nd is that the racing stripes have started to get a few bubbles on the rear spoiler section and really needs redoing, can i get this on warrenty as renault did not officaly do this, but the renault dealer got an outside company to come in a do it, and its down on the receipt as having them and paid for the racing stripes.

The whistling noise is probably due to the wing mirrors...dont laugh!!

Whilst driving reach out of the drivers windows and cover the hinge part where on the far side..the whistling noise should stop...it is just wind noise through the mirror and can be annoying but as long as you know what it is!

As for the stripes then contact your dealer as they should be able to recall the company that they supplied..it isnt covered by Renault warranty but the company who installed and if reno arranged this pre-purchase then they should arrange for it to be sorted

cheers- only trouble is that i ordered it through the internet and the renault dealer is 150 miles away and i think the company is local to them so might be a problem there, dont really fancy doing a 300 mile round trip to sort out a few bubbles but ill ring them on monday and see what they say.

does the performance get better as the engine starts to bed in? mine is on 800 miles now and really does feel tight and not much go before 5000rpm, but maybe im just used to the z3m with the 325bhp so might just feel slow after that.

Thats normal with the power..the engine will loosen up and you get a kick at about 5,000 rpm anyway.

The Z3M is a totally different car with huge power to the rear wheels so the clio will never compare to that but it has its own brand of fun!

Maybe if you see your nearest renault dealer sees that the stipes were done by the dealership 150 miles away they may cover this under normal warranty...thats of course unless your nearest dealer if 150 miles away!

hey jason, what spec elise did you have?

how do you find the handling compared to the elise?

i must say the elise was great fun handling out of this world, just got to impractical and when the head gasket went which most will do i thought it was time to put her up for sale, only lost £3k in 2 years too.

i then went for the z3m coupe i had one of the last ones ever made with the s54 m3 engine and OMG what a beast wheel spins in 1st-2nd and 3rd, 80 in 2nd gear and 0-60 in 4.3 sec, and still 25mpg.

had to sell her due to house move but really want to go back after the clio, other cars im considering are the clio v6, r34, z350 with super charger or noble m12.

what a tough life.
