182 Rear Shocks + warrenty ! whats the deal ?

  1.6 Astra ... R.I.P. 182
how many miles ? age ? etc is the warrenty valid for ?

also whos had them replaced ? how many ? and when ? age of car etc ?

Under Renault warently 1 year unlimited milgae.

However under the sale of goods act there asection stating all components sold should be suitable for the product and if dampers leak under 4 years and say 80k I'd say there unfit for purpose and so you use that.

Quite a few people have had them changed under warently as there a common failure point.

If your having troubl;e with the dealership ring Renault Uk and explain to them. Often the shock leaks oil which is easy to see ring Renault up tell them whats happeneing and the dealers unhappy to work with you etc and can they contact the delaer or the dealer contact them regards a warently payout.

Dealers don't like warently work like this as if Renault Uk say its not a failure when they get the part the delaership don't get paid and the'll have done all the work etc and paid for the parts.

£115 each ha ha there only 50 or so each.

Ring Renault Uk and explaian the situation. As i said Renault dealers don't want to risk it sometimes not getting paid so are difficult.

Its not wear and tear its not fit for purpose so whiclst there warentl doens't cover it since they are wear and tear they cannot refuse to pay for there fit for purpose product as wearing this soon ins't fit so its a manurfacturing failure so a warently jobbie. Ring Renault Uk again and mention its not fit for purpose.

Hi,
I had similar problem
Rear shock failed, chucked all its oil out....
Dealer wanted £50 +vat for shock and £35 approx to fit.(they said 30min labour) for what is a 10min job involving a nut at top of shock and bolt at bottom... rip off again...
after some major moaning to renault UK had it fitted free so just got charged for the part.
my car had done about 22k and was +2years old....
I also got the good old renault get out of jail card "wear and tear" what a crock of s**t!!

Perhaps we should get all the members of cliosport with same problem together and try and raise the issue of as mentioned "fit for purpose" and perhaps under safety too.
just a thought,

  titanium 182,
renault warranty is 3 years or 60k after that your on your own
to be honest after 20k i think it's classed as wear and tear anyway
unless its catastrophic failure

Whilst not covered under the normal warently under the law the parts have to be fit for purpose so ask your dealership/Renault Uk saying the partsarn't fit for purpose as they've failed so you require under the sale of goods act to be sorted.

My 172 Cup rear shock went 2 weeks before the warranty ran out @ 3 years old and on 26k. Initially the dealer insisted wear & tear etc. Argued with customer services, got no where. Bought new shocks for MOT.

But customer services made the mistake of telling me that they have no tehnically trained people at all. So i wrote a couple of letters to Renault citing a technically based argument, knowing full well the customer services bods would have no idea wtf i was on about.

Eventually got paid in full for 2 shockers, as a "gesture of goodwill"!!

Just keep on, and on, and on at them.

if I were you i would look up the sale of goods act. edde is quite righta shock absorbers deisgned lifespan is several years if it fails withing this period then as edde said it is not fit for the purpose which it was designed for and you should have it replaced under those grounds regardless of warranty.
