182 Trophy Advice

  GTR
Hi All,

Looking at a 182 Trophy reg: CP05 XOO - does anyone know the car or did you previously own it?

Are there any key things to look out for on a Trophy, issues or problems?

I think the car will need a cambelt and waterpump to be safe - what sort of price is it to get this done?

Thanks A

What number Trophy is it, you might be able to find more info on the Clio trophy forum where the history of most cars is updated to a certain degree.

The only thing to consider on a Trophy is that it’s got the bits it’s supposed to have - seats & dampers - otherwise it’s basically the same as any other 182.

Where are you in the country?

Hi Tim - i am in south London - the car is in Hemel Hempstead. How do i find the Trophy number?

Also how can you tell if it has the correct dampers - sorry if that a stupid question!

The number is on a sticker on the side mount of the seat.

The dampers are Sachs remote reservoir items that sell for £1000+ a pair and they’re an essential part of the true identity of the Trophy. Plenty of people don’t use them but just bear it in mind as it will be worth less and harder to sell without. Google them and you’ll find plenty of pictures etc.

They need refurbishing when they fail, which can cost in the region of £6-800 but there’s no set interval - some last years and many miles, others less.

Not sure who your best local specialist is, someone will be able to advise and give a suggested price for belts dephaser and w/pump.

reading it looks like the current (10th) owner has only owned since March and was asking about suspension rebuild...new top mints fitted but doesn’t talk about them being refurbed. I would take a good look at them as that bill could be substantial. Looks like it also had some big engine work done a few years ago, which isn’t a bad thing.

Dampers havent been done - cars up for £6500

Needs:
- Dampers refurb
- Cambelt etc

Whats a fair price for it when it needs all this work?

*does anyone know where you can get the dampers done?

Have the dampers failed and are they off the car? If not, they might not need doing. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, it’s definitely not something I’d ever consider doing unless it was a necessity.

But if they do need doing then the main options are BG Motorsport based at Silverstone, Cornering Force somewhere oop norf, or Rik Perry on the Trophy forum. I’ve heard Cooksport may also be an option.

We’d need more details mate. Link to the ad? Looking at the forum post it looked like the dampers were gonna be serviced. Guess the owner decided not to so maybe they don’t need it

Says he is firm on price mate well overdue a cambelt service which will be thick end of £600. So it will owe you £7100 before you look at anything else. Just think for that money there maybe one with better ownership, mileage etc. Thing with trophies is they are worth the chunk of change to the weird collectors, but they want low ownership, strong history and lower miles. So I think he wants plenty of cash. You also have the question around the suspension condition. Personally I’d want a good idea as to the condition of that before I shelled out. If it needs rebuilding the car is going to owe you very strong money. Like £8k and it will still be a 10 owner 130k trophy

I’m not sure what’s it’s worth to be honest mate, just pointing out some of the bits I picked up about it. Just feels strong money for a car that’s going to need decent money spending on it. Plus he says no offers
