197 gearing

With the new 197's having slightly longer 5th and 6th gears, would that mean that the "older" car with shorter ratios be better as a track car?

Wouldn't make any difference.

Only 5th and 6th gear have been lengthened, so not gears you'd use much on a track. And they aren't much longer at all, only an extra 1.5 mph per 1000rpm in 6th.

Not a huge different and as said you rarly get to thoe speeds on circuit anyway.
