197 Power

  Focus RS
Hi Just join the forum, I currently have a Focus RS and I'm starting to look around at other cars not after having the Focus for 3 years now.

What power can you achieve out of a 197 still keeping it NA and at what cost?

There isnt a great deal on the market for 197s currently.

Ktec have been talking about a ITB kit though. There are a few sets of cams ect

Keeping it N/A is the Most expensive route if your chasing power figures.

I wouldn't want big power from it but a little extra wouls be nice! Was thinking 30-40bhp

Well, You wont see that much unless you spend a decent amount.

30-40HP is quite alot.

For example, on our PH1 172

standard it made 160 (odd)HP

Cams + Remap it made 180 ish HP (about £1000 worth of mods by the previous owner)

ITBS it made 200HP ish - Cost another 2k

soon to be High comp + ITBs (hoping for 240 HP) - Cost another 5K

So going of that work it out for a newer car :p

If Ktec get the 197/200 supercharger kits out like was mentioned in the other thread thats the way to go.

To be honest mate, with the 197, its not really about the power, its about the chassis mainly and how it drives. Ive had my cup for just over a year and it rattles like hell, but if u grow some mellons and push it, then its rewarding. With regards to power, i understand that k-tec are developing a turbo kit.

There a lot of heat from a turbo and I'd like to track it which that 197 will be good at but the only track near me has 2 long straights which I'd like more power for and there's not many corners on the track either.

I've just got a filter, re-map and coilovers on mine and it drives much better than standard. Bhp figures don't mean much to me as I usually find I can often beat 'quicker' cars when I'm out on track.

Why the change mate?

I love the Focus RS!

Was thinking about getting something a bit cheaper, the Focus has only cover 15k in 6 1/2 years. I don't use it much at all and my beeter half thinks its a lot of £££ just to sit in the garage.

Thats sounds good I noticed that when I've been watching tracks days, the 197 is had over 100bhp less than the focus. I don't want to sell the focus and then be bugged at the performance of the 197, I do realise that it will be different driving a na car over a turbo car with the low down torque. I will try to get a passenger run at the track if someone has one there.

Jonny...where abouts are you based in Northern Ireland? I'm in Lurgan would be happy to take you out for a spin to see what you think.

IMO keep the low mileage RS. It's faster, more special, and will retain its value better.

That said, the 197 is an amazing car too. It won't be any kind of money saving though, as its value won't hold at all, and it'll cost thousands and thousands to get 240bhp from it.

Thanks for the kind offer. I live abour 35-40 miles from you I live near Newcastle, I'll do I bit more thinking first :D

The Clios love Kirkistown from what I hear, can't wait to get up there when the weather and season starts!

Though the RS is some car though :)

I've saw a few 182's there and there go rightly round it! I had the Focus round once and there were no Clio's there that I remember.

Deffo don't want to be spending thousands on it that said I've about £2500 spent on the Focus over the last 3 years but I don't really want to be spending money like that anytime soon as it needs spent around the house etc.

I'd like to think I'd have about £4k left after the change but the hardest part will be finding the right buyer for the Focus, it might not matter to many that there's 15k miles on it.

I see where your coming from with the Focus holding its value in the long run too.
