197 Richard Hammond Review

Gaz

  Clio 182
Just your average paper review, doesnt actually talk about how the car drives as usual...toss!

It's the stupidity of the 'The Rivals' bit that gets me. Yes in theory the Clio is a group B car along with the Polo, Ibiza, Fiesta etc... but as with the CTR it wipes the floor with group B and most of group C. Even more stupid is that the cars are the Fiesta (150ish bhp), Polo (150ish bhp) and the Astra (250ish bhp)!?!?!

was thinking exactly the same mate.

And Hammond is a bit of a prick imo, he's just a yes man to JC on TG

I doubt he personally picked 'the rivals' but it's annoying when papers can't be bothered to make a little effort!

It's just a newspaper review in a tabloid, it's never going to be a detailed analysis of the handling characteristics is it!

Look at this way: good review in massively read publication by a person millions of people love = potential for more sales = more likely to get better revisions such as Cup, Trophy etc

If they do a Trophy though will it be a like the Megane or the ph2 Clio? The Megane Trophy seemed to be riding on the back of the Clio and appeared a few months after the Clio. The Clio on the other hand was a last hurrah for the ph2 so you could be waiting a few years for a 197 Trophy!!

Check out the following page - '172 cup in nice light blue, which is France's racing colour'...'built 500 hundred red cups and called them the Renaultsport Clio Trophy'!!!
The mans a fool!! Although he does go on to say the Trophy is 'probably the finest hot hatch in the world. Ever' Which is obviously true.......oops stand by for some flak!!

"I dreamed of bucket seats like these when I was a teenage hooligan"

Somehow I think Richard hammond was a bit of a mummy's boy and the worse thing he ever
did was a steal a pint of gold top milk from his 80 year old next door neighbour.

  '92 172, Lotus Elise
thought it was 172PS

still, its as near as makes no difference and would consfuse the average reader...

the Clio 172.. with 169bhp!
