2 days ownership left!

  meriva vxr! really ;-)
Just done the deal and whacked the deposit down - its official after saturday i will no longer be a clio owner! Got £7000 as a trade in value which was kinda fair although i wish there was a stronger clio market near me as i know this will probably go straight on a forecourt somewhere for £8k upwards - so coming soon to a welsh dealer near you...

If the dealer doesn't mind i might take the carbon fibre splitter off it first but i did send pics of the car with the splitter on so only fair to give it with the splitter!

Now if only the weather wasn't so bad i might actually be able to enjoy my last few days of stupidly fast acceleration and fun handling...

doesnt sound that bad a trade in price tbh

you don't know how many days worth of talking this took - in reality i think if i'd gone in with straight cash the overall deal would have been a few hundred cheaper but still the original price being quoted by nearly all the vaux dealers was £5.8-£6.5 on the trade ins - most giving £6.7 as the highest! So i'm happy

Also after me explaining the condition of the clio the dealer actually offered to get 2 of the wheels re-furbed and a paint chip repaires as he could tell when i came in person i'm going over it with a toothcomb and expect tip top condition!

i'd rather just have the normal 5 seats in the clio then have a meriva!

I still want a quick car - also i found the clio/megane boots are just a bit small if your putting things like push chairs in them - had looked at a megane sport but just not really gaining much over the clio

the R26 is infinitely better than a clio, so that would have been my preference if 5 doors was a necessity

I'll be honest i hate 3 door cars made with 5 if that makes sense - meganes/clio etc just don't look right with 5 doors, also it's a boot space thing - other car i've tried using is a 3 series e90 saloon and even that boot is a struggle for the pushchair travel system thing we've got!

Also will be able to use this for the wedding shows i do as part of my business - we need to transport tv/tv stand etc so having the mini mpv comes in handy!

I just feel so old saying things like this - damn does this mean at nearly 30 i've finally "grown up" ... although my first thought is still will the meriva take 19's and what engine mod first...

Only the 1.6 turbo? How naff, should be the 2.0l imo .

Still looks quite good for a people carrier thingy I guess.

i think i'm lucky the meriva vxr appears even more undesirable than the clio! most of them have 5k miles tops on them - only 12 across the whole of the uk for sale on autotrader! quite a few of the dealers commented people upgraded to them and then decided they were to fast for a family car and went for something slower - and i think it's a niche market within a niche market with them!

Apparently the 2.0l engine is a lot heavier so they went with a de-tuned (same as in the corsa) 1.6 which means mapping can release 50bhp - only worries with this are the car hasn't got the weight at the front so putting down the power could be a prob - but hell it will be good for a rr printout at least ;-)

Realistically i reckon the real trade in value i've got is about £6800 which is annoying considering this time last year 182's were going private at £9k - oh well drive this for a year then i'll be able to swap for a r26 the way renault prices depriciate ;)

my only concern with the Meriva is the narrow wheelbase and top heavyness they have... never seen a VXR version on the road yet!

i guess everyone has to become sensible at some stage in life... wouldn't have been my choice tbh but then life'd be boring if we all liked the same things!
