My mate rebuilds their boxes, seems strange that all the boxes I've had rebuilt by him have been fine and his work is better than most

Depends if it was actually sent for a rebuild or not. Its not the first time they've said something is rebuilt and it hasn't been

Start of 2019. I bought it just before I went ring in April as a bit of a last resort sort of thing. From the outset it was noisy, but I just went on the trip anyways.
Never bothered moaning about it as I knew it would result in nothing, given I’d just done 1500 miles and a trackday over there.
Covid happened and the car sat still for ages, so it was only recently when I actually ripped it apart.
I bought a fresh set of bearings and was gonna refresh it and put a Gripper in. I took it apart and the whole box was riddled with silicone. It was all in the oil galleries, which is what caused the bearings to fail in the first place (I think). It’s pretty much scrap now really.
It was defo rebuilt, as it had had the later steel synchros in it, and the outside was caked in sealant.
I robbed the synchros and run them in my spare box.
When I picked the box up they said it had been rebuilt by a gearbox specialist which was located on the opposite side of the street.

Doesn't sound like anything they would do tbh. There's a few people on here with rebuilt gearboxes from said specialist and none have had issues, including all 3 of my cars and a 4th spare box. Seems you got the Friday Renparts special if anything

The lad I bought my 197 off had some headlights from them. They wrapped the headlights in cling film and put them in a box expecting them not to be damaged in transit

When i went to pick the box up they were doing a right elaborate sales pitch to someone who'd rung up asking for a 197 manifold.
