2000rpm idle

when pulling up in traffic my ph1 172 sometimes idles upto 2000rpm, but settles down once i tap the throttle pedel. any ideas?

my mates did this but all the time, he had to have a new throttle body as the spring had gone; common fault apparently,
but first before jumping the gun and spending out try cleaning the VDO mines idling funny and have been suggested to clean it out maybe worth a shout before breaking out the pennies

Mine does this...

Ive replaced the idle control valve, ive had the throttle body completely off and cleaned it all out, then re-fitted with new gasket. Also replaced the throttle cable, and it still does it....so im putting it down the spring internally in the throttle body tbh!

it is!! There is a cheapo fix you can do, if you search warren he has done it.

Andy's was doing the same, you can just fabricate an extra return spring on the throttle body! Thats what they all did, works just fine!

Lol yeah I remember that rig up, might look into it if I still need to sort it after winter
