2005 Renault Clio 2 1.4 16v from Romania

Hi lads new member here, got a Clio 2 1.4 16v with a few Twingo RS bits on it. Started with the intake because I loved the sound on a mate's car, then it snowballed into throttle body, injectors, cams, Megane lower manifold, Gaz coilovers, 172 front end and rear disc conversion. Funny how one small mod turns into ten 😅 same thing online, one slot or bonus catches your eye and suddenly you're looking through the whole casino. Had that with https://tropical-casino.com/ Tropical Casino before, the slots section pulled me in more than the bonus stuff. Car now revs clean to 6000 and does about 6.6l/100km at 120. Michelin PS3s next.
Welcome. That sounds like a really fun little project, especially with how many factory Renault parts you have managed to mix together.

I like builds like this much more than just throwing random aftermarket parts at the car. The Twingo RS intake and throttle body with the Megane injectors sounds like a nice combination, and the Clio 172 suspension parts should make a noticeable difference too.

Once you get the exhaust and cams sorted I would be really curious to see what it makes on a dyno. Even if the final number is not huge, a light Clio with sharper response and a better chassis can be a lot more fun than something with twice the power.

Also 6.6L/100km at 120 km/h is pretty decent considering the amount of work already done to it.

Im back 😁 , good friend decided to remove his White line arb from his Clio and he called me if i need such thing and couple hours later it was on my car ... good points , the car is like a go kart need to adjust the suspension again will test this on 24 september when i got track day , bad points it keeps you on the edge and especially on the wet conditions comfort wise its more stiff now so the comfort dropped a bit but the smile on my face is even bigger .

I still have the stock gearbox maybe that helped a bit but it s frankenstein setup or renault parts bin car , what ever want to call it , i just tried to use as much as original stuff as possible to keep it legal ( kinda) and fully functional as Renault intended and having good friends that know a lot about these and the forum part (cliosport.net) .

Hi Torvalds,

Great project! It's really interesting to see others make projects out of the non sport models (Which I do of course really rate!). Your car sounds immense and looks great as well.

Despite owning my little 1.6 mk2 since around late 2019 I've only just signed up on here! It's a rolling project and I'm not chasing big power but I like to feel improvements via small changes and upgrades and parts bin raiding from other Renault models.

I'm going to be cutting and welding a steel mk2 Megane 1.6 flange on a 172 manifold soon to see if that offers any improvements (full 172 system including the cat).

And after all that I've got a question for you! You mentioned fitting Twingo RS133 cams to a non VVT K4M and this is something I'm wanting to do as well. I've already got a pair of cams. Saw this but in your write up:

"For the intake cam i blocked the oil holes for vvt so no dephaser and i had to cut a square shape cam lobe that a sensor used to read on the twingo rs"

If you don't mind me asking what's the best way to go about blocking the dephaser oil feed in the inlet cam nose? And how did you go about shaving the square lobe back? Is it just a case of shaving enough for clearance or did you have it machined by a workshop?

Sorry to hijack a little but seeing your thread has renewed my enthusiasm to get this done! Cheers!

Hello mate , nice to hear about your project . Lets start with the twingo rs intake cam , it was done by a friend and he filled the holes at the end of the cam with some epoxy resin so that i can you a normal k4m pulley or you can leave the cam as it is and use the twingo dephaser but lock it mechanically on 0 position regarding that square lobe those twingo cams where in my stock 1.4 16v engine and that cam cover wasn t design for that so i ve machined the cam in a workshop . Currently the car is using a f4r stock with a mad map . Personally i didn t want to go the f4r engine route because twingo rs engine is a good platform and very happy to rev like mad , twingo rs engine is a megane 1.616v engine but the main diff is in the pistons and the cams .
