205/45/16 or 195/45/16?

hmmm!

didn't think you got more grip just because of the width, i thought it was down to the tyre compound, i could be wrong.

Anyhow, wider looks better i guess, lol.

i changed over from 195's to 205's recently.... but i changed to conti's.... and they are quite possibly the worst tyre i have ever bought.

So... i'm having a bad time with 205's, but common sense says change to the wider tyre to increase the footprint distribution. I just have to fork out for some PE2's to enjoy the change.

Are there any downsides to this size for road use? Also will they fit my Mk2 Ph1 ok without rubbing? Thanks.

i'd imagine due to the super low profile, that the ride will be seriously compromised.?

215/40 are the same profile (sidewall height) as the std 195/45..!

Tried the 215/40 and they where fine no rubbing.! Lots of grip!

I didn't get on with 205's..... although they were A539's

And I don't think it's as simple as wider = more grip. You'll also get more aquaplaning and tramlining.

EDIT: Read this - Interesting thread.

A539 is the problem, PE2's different league..

True wider is not nec better but after load of option tried then road 205 and 215/40 for the track. Aquaplaning and tramlining no worse..
