20Mb virgin media BB

  Dci 100
how much dollar will that cost?? i'm on virgin BB at the moment, would be interested to see what its like, the contention ratio's are key to getting a good level of service tho arent they, if you've got a p**n hungry next door neighbour or a serioius gamer (or both) on the same service you might not get very good speeds

im on 10mbit.. due for upgrade soon but not happend yet.. (edinburgh based)

The old man trialled it for a week.

Was uber quick during twilight hours but during peak times it felt no faster than 4Mb tbh.

No change in Glasgow and I do not even see my area listed on their site. They did send me a letter to tell me that I would recieve the upgrade soon.

  Yaris Hybrid
They haven't done Bristol yet. No idea if I will need a new modem or not as they haven't posted the info yet. Mine is the SB4100.

VM are rolling out 20 meg and at the same time uping the price of their "XL" package by £2. In addition, users are now subject to traffic management in the evenings.

I've not got 20meg here (Renfrew UBR) but a mate down the road in an ex-Telewest area has. He gets 20 meg but quickly falls foul of traffic management and gets throttled down to 5 meg. Since the VM re-branding I'm lucky to see 4 meg these days anyway, used to get 10 anytime of the day :dapprove:

TBH you dont want the upgrade.. as soon as you get 20mbit you will start to be traffic shaped if you download more than 3 gig between 4pm and 12am :(

20meg goes down to 5, check the above link for all the details. And strictly speaking its "traffic management" they are implementing, which means all protocols/traffic are throttled down. "Traffic shaping" would allow for specific protocols (P2P etc) to be shaped and allow web browsing etc to remain unchanged.

Your correct, traffic managed would be more appropriate.. still sucks that the XL package gets a 75% reduction in speed but the lower packages only get a 50% reduction.

And on the 2mbit isnt its a 350mb limit then your dropped to 1mbit .. you can hit that just by browsing f**king youtube or somthing..

Been looking into bethere.co.uk but means i'll need to change back from telewest phone line to BT :(
