2k Lacquer...

Can this be bought in shops? The only time I've ever seen it has been an ebay link someone posted for me once.

I gather its quite different to regular lacquer, although not sure how, I'd quite like to know how and why to use it over normal stuff?

I don't really want to go to halfrauds and get standard lacquer and use it on my body work to touch something up if this stuff is a lot better....

(Before you all panic, its a scratch right at the bottom of the front bumper, and I'm pretty handy with a spray can)

To the plastic at its deepest point, only a small line on the bumper, just above the fog, touch of filler, sand back, spray in, job done. (I hope)

Bought 3 cans yesterday, £11 a can from where i get it. Ring pull in the bottom which you twist and pull out and then shake, lasts for 24 hours then you have to throw it away. Gives an amazing finish compared to halfrauds cans, just make sure you let it harden. Well worth getting hold of!

Where do you get it mate? Sounds a good price!!!

I intend to use it a la weekend, let it dry for several hours, cover it over so nothing can hit it and drive the car home, should harden just fine. lol!

tbh i think you will find it very hard to do a blow in with a can , your gonna need fade out blender to if you want it to look right and then flat it down and polish it in. personally id give a mobile spray man£60 to blow it in then atleast you know it will look good

I've blown in small amounts with a can before with no troubles on my friends silver fiesta, this mark is tiny, i was considering dabbing it with paint just so its silver and it won't show, but I think i'll be ok to do it this way, if it were on the bonnet or something I wouldnt consider it, I have a small mark on the bonnet which I'll have done, but being the front bumper I'm not too worried.

if you know what your doing then fair enough it may be worth a shot but otherwise for the sake of £60 ish quid id be tempted to do it properly

This is what i used on my wheels mate. Same stuff as Chris has posted up there^^^.

Difference is night and day from halfords lacquer. It goes on so well and is really hard to mess up tbh. One coat and it comes out great. One can does about 3 wheels (2 coats on each). Or two coats on mirror covers, bump strips, rear wiper blank and centre caps.

^ Very nice finish, Anyone got any cheaper links for the 2K?

OP - Is it just a scratch? could it be filled with a touch up pen and corrected using machine.. Just an idea if the scratch is repairable without blowing in.

Tell me more... Yes its just a scratch? I've always messed up with pens etc, and found spray easier to get a better end result?

No one has said where they are getting this 2k from.... Ahhh!!!

Edit: Bloody weird timing you posting that link, what kind of shop will sell this 2k stuff? Motor factors? Or will it have to be a paint specialist?

Most automative spray shops would stock it I should think! Me and alex both get ours from the same place but i can imagine any car paint seller will.

Ive filled in small scratches with a touch up pen, A few layers with a fine brush to fill the scratch, Then wet flat once dry and polish back up to standard.

If its a big scratch of a deep scuff i would spray, But a scratch i would repair using touch up paint and a very fine brush.

The main reason i've never succeeded is the above highlighted part mate, I rock at wet flatting, I think, but I've never had the right polish to get something back up to standard, a link would really be appreciated?

Once polished back up, would you blow some lacquer over it, or not? Guessing its not necessary if its just a scratch?

There's only a small part of my mark thats down to the plastic, it gets deeper gradually towards the middle!

A long time a go there was a thread on detailing world, The guy (think he had an elise) had his car keyed all over, He filled the scratches in and polished it and as far as i can remeber the final result was very good. (Im just referencing as this is what suprised me that you can touch up scratches to a good standard)

Doubt i would find that thread now.

Personally i would use Mazerna's range, Have a look on clean your car... i would get a fairly high cut, then a finishing polish.

Im a newb with a silverline rotary and a few mazerna polishes but ive corrected a few stone chips, light scratches etc with very good results.

Ok cool, someone posted one recently with a guy and a purple M3 IIRC, was quite an impressive bonnet correction, anyways I have no idea what I'm doing with the polishes, but I'll have a crack with a brush then.

Cheers mate :)

If you have any isopropyl alcohol clean the scratch first to get rid of any wax.. Or petrol or white sprit would work at a guess.

Then use a very fine brush and fill the scratch until its slightly bimming, leave it to cure, you might need to top up because the paint sinks when drying.. then yeah wet flat and polish.
