2nd gear whine?

  SG9 Forester STi
Just wondering if this is just another clio 'thing' or whether my gearbox is about to give up. :dapprove:

It doesn't seem to whine in any other gear other than 2nd and I wondered if anyone else has the same issue or whether I should make allowances for a new gearbox sometime in the near future?

Ta!

Worn syncros/bearings. Does it crunch going into second yet? Original 'box for the 182 engine you had fitted?

Mine whines in first, sounds (like reverse). Lads at JMS and Agency said it sounds like worn case hardening?! Agency said it should last like that but obviously not quite right. Told me just take it easy in first until you can afford the ££££ for a gearbox refurb.

Haven't had any of that Will.

I've got someone who would do the work for me for nothing so thats not a problem. Not a rebuild but a sourced gearbox.

It's more the fact that I plan on at least 5 drag days this year and would rather enjoy the day knowing it's character LOL.

Second takes the brunt if you're doing drag days, obviously. JC5 boxes don't like to be rushed even when new, let alone with worn internals.

If you want piece of mind, get it sorted before you drive it hard.

Personally I'd be going for a rebuild over another box.

You're getting an essentially new box, as opposed to one off of a "30k car" that's been abused for 29,999 of those miles.

True. Well I'll keep an eye on it and if the whine gets worse then I'll have to get the box rebuilt.

Thanks for the help guys :)

If you know anything about cars you'd rebuild it yourself. I did two on the weekend.
