350D help and advice please..

Basically once I've secured me a job for the summer (student) will want to pick up a 350D asap.

Just after peoples opinions, where to buy from and how much they paid. What case you have etc?

Have you taken it back for warranty work? heard some people talk about having theirs replaced due to dust on the lense?

Are Jessops online the same as the store, ie buy online, take for warranty at any store?

Just did me a basket for £639.97

Includes:
Canon EOS 350D Black + EF-S 18-55mm (£499)

+ 2 years Warranty (might be invalid as its now under 500 lol)

Jessops Compactflash High Speed Card 100X - 512MB

Probably buy SD cars cheaper elsewhere...

I would get a bigger 1 GB card at least. I got some 2 GB cards from Picstop.co.uk cheap.

The standard lens is hit of miss, mine was very poor, (full of dust here) I would buy the body and get a decent lens.

More than a gig, how do you get on with your storage Rich? Do you keep things on the cards for a while?

At the F1 testing last month I took just over 200 pictures which was about 550Mb.

I do agree though, more than one could be handy, think I might get another Sandisk actually, that card in the link was £70 when I got it in November.

I can easily fill cards, especially if I am shooting in Raw. Even large jpegs on the 350D at highest setting are about 3mb each.

Nah they come off as soon as I get home. Took 500 pics at Llandow at a Pug Track day the other month.

Cheers for all the card links. Think jessops is the way forward with the 3 year cover, not sure what it covers but I'd trust them more than PcWorld..

I'd probably stick with the standard lense to begin with, its not much more than just the body on its own, works out at £40

Edit: looking at lenses at a resonable price (budget want to keep it down!), this at a glance seemed like a good all rounder?

The Sigma is to long for as replacement for the kit lens, but will compliment the kit lens if you are going to get it, like you say for 40 quid you cant go wrong with the 18-55.

Cheers Rich.

Havent really used RAW, just have JPEG's with everything set to high.

Blue Pete, if your thinking of buying from Jessop's I can tell you I havent had any problems with them. Ordered my DSLR kit off them just before Christmas and it arrived before the estimation date because it was initially out of stock.

Also before I got the SLR I bought an adapter ring for my HP camera which was the wrong size, took it into the shop and refunded me with out any problems.

They usually have some good package deals on, which change quite freqently with different bundled lenses and prices.

Yeah sorry Rich, I really have no idea, having a read around the net to try and understand all the lense terms etc
Shuld be revising for an exam not this lol!

Ah cool. So Jessops don't operate like o2, if I have issues I can goto a store...

lol, yeah know what you mean about O2, having to send my phone back at the moment as they wont do anything in the shop because I bought off the net. Shouldnt have a problem with jessops though, as long as you have all the paper work for the item.
