360 laser burn

basically ive been offered a 360 without hard drive for free as my gf's dads got a new one and he cant be bothered to get his sorted.

However, everytime a game is played it burns the disc. Any idea on how to fix this, can it be fixed etc.

In 4-5 years of repairing some random things on these I've never heard of this.

basically some disks it doesnt read and others it burns so have to always go into gamestation and get them fixed. but for a free xbox 360 what do you expect ha. any way to fix it tho

new dvd drive? Will have to check its compatible though.

Quite a stange one, burn's usually come from when the console is moved. Is the dvd drive fixed down properly? Might be vibrating and then burning the disc's.

So not burn but scratch is what you mean?

i guess its scratching but i think its known as laser burn and this occurs when console is moved however its now horizontal/dead flat and only does it on a couple of games but then others it will read. Is it the lens or drive :/ im stumped.

It's not very straight forward changing the DVD drive. The drives are all matched to the main board to start with, so you would have to flash the new drive so that it would work with xbox.

The danger of flashing is that you risk Microsoft's ban hammer at any time they decide to end your online entertainment!

An alternative way could be to find an identical drive and then take the lens out of it. I'm not sure how easy that would be.

Personally I would sack it and buy another xbox, they are so cheap now!

Get it and find someone with a valid receipt and ask them to take it in and swap?

I did when mine RROD'd cause i couldnt find my receipt.

You don't need to flash anything. Open console, remove drive and see what model you have. Order new drive and just change the boards over In the drives. Absolutely no need for flashing and takes 2 mins.

That's if you can find an identical drive!

Doesn't need to be identical. Just the same make so say you had a Ms28 sammy you could use an ms25 sammy by just swapping boards. Same hardware etc.

You can buy any 360 drive brand new without hassle
