36k service...

  Mk4 .:R32
Does a 36k service consist of getting both the aux and cam belts replaced? Or is it just the aux belt, but people recommend you get the cam belt done as well? Cos if they both need doing, I guess the service will cost about 5-600 quid which is a joke.

aux belt at 36k only

cambelt is 72k or 5 years

Thats the recomendations from Renault, but some people have recommend to change the cambelt sooner than 72,000 miles as there have been a few issues with cambelts breaking before there due a change out :(

As for the Aux Belt, i aint sure if there have been issues with them breaking before 36,000 or not :S

im having my aux belt done soon but having the idler and tensioner changed as well, all in done for just less than 200 pound. its more often than not the idle thats at fault when aux belts let go and not the belt itself.

my mileage is only 25k but i think my aux belt is overtightened and renault wont change it under warranty they state its meant to make that belt noise, muppets.

Thank god I got the dealers to do my 36k service + aux belts as part of the original selling price before I pick my car up on saturday...

Just had my 36k serves done this week, just got he aux belt done £450 that’s with a MOT and new back brake pads. I hoped that that would be it for expansive services for a bit but now you mention the five year thing that means I will need to get the cam belt done next year, s**t.

Mine was on 36k when I bought it and I got them to do the aux belt before I took it.

Thing is cambelt is due in 12 months and with some of the stories on here i'm wishing that I had got it done at the same time rather than leaving it until the last minute.

I understand the cambelt is a bit of a job, would you really recommend a proper specialist do it or is my local mechanic likely to be able to do it without messing it up ?

Id love to hear the answer to that because atm I am getting a cammy done on my car, i have 2 quotes on the table one is 185 for water pump and both belts, the other is 400, no prize for which one is the more established mechanic, dont know if it is something you can do wrong though
