3yr Service for 172

  172
Rather than folking out £350+ to Mr Reg Vardy would you trust a friend (Pegouet mechanic) too do your 3 year service? Also, what servicable parts would i need to get and where would you get them from?

Its a 53reg 172FF with 33k milage.

thanks in advance ;)

Is it the 36K service you need doing?

If so go to Rentech, should get it much cheaper than £350 and Mike knows what he's doing!

I got my 36k service at Benfield Renault, Gateshead for £202. That was with me supplying £36 of my own oil though rather than the £76 for their oil.

Parts needed: 5w40 fully synthetic oil (or is it 10w40 again?), oil filter, air filter, cabin filter.

I also provided my own ITG panel filter.

I got the auxiliary belt done too for an extra £80.

Would have been about £280 for the service. Pretty expensive for an oil change and a few checks and stamp of book.

If the cars not in it's warranty anymore, I definitly wouldn't take it to Renault!

That's a good point.

Come my 48k service I won't be taking it to Renault as it's already now out of warranty.

I'll take it there for the cambelt though but not til about 54k ish.

Check if it's still got warranty or not. If it's just inside I would go there personally as any parts needing attention should be covered.

On my 36k I had some sort of power steering switch replaced. I couldn't feel it had gone though they said it had from the diagnostics. I doubt a local back street garage would pick this type of fault up.

Buy the oil filter £7 from Renault same for the air filter £10 or so. Also same for sump washer £1.10 at present (prices go up and down a lot)

Oil I'd use decinet stuf can buy it cheap from oil man etc.

£12 or so for the aux belt etc fitting not complex.

I'd just get someone to do it. Nothing in the 36k is that difficult AUX belts abit of a pain. But see if your mate can get the book stamped as it looks good on resale plus get all the checks done as per the 36k.

Try shop around though you can get it cheaper. Plus always good to have a proper Renault stamp and checks done.

Go to a specialist for the canbelt unless you want to fork out over £600 at Renault:eek:
