450 Euros to revise steering rack?

Just got quoted 450 Euros for revising my steering rack, which is only 200 Euros less than buying a new one from Renault? :dead:

What are prices like in the UK?

i paid about £150 to have mine reconditioned locally, and somewhere in the Midlands quoted £125 from memory

got another 2 quotes today, 490 and 440

I guess that's the going rate in Belgium

annoying thing is, I'm not sure if it really is the steering rack that's worn out like my Renault garage told me

symptems:
- steering doesn't seem as direct with small amounts of steering input, compared to when more steering lock is applied
- small tick tick sound when steering wheel is wiggled from side to side
