4pm friday night, my PSU goes bang

  Not a 320d
FECK.

Its a corsair HX 750 modular. Just installed a new xonar stx sound card to replace the existing fatality shambles i had in there. All for the sake of driving some AKG headphones.

Anyways, all plugged back in, power cable in, psu switched to on and POP, bit of smoke. Gutted.

Not even a year old.

Couldnt get anything to power on including my monitor or desk lap. Turns out the electrics had tripped, i turn everything back on and what do i get, lights on the motherboard but the psu trips my house again. Turn back on, and nothing now. My PSU is dead. Tried different cables. Dead. Bit gutted really, as ive got nothing else except my Mums shitty laptop to use all weekend.

Anything else i could try lol? Fairy Dust? Clio 172 Cup in the twistys magic g force?

Bah - not good timing. :(

We once had a Proliant PSU go at work, but rather than a small 'pop', it went 'BANG!'. Bits of capacitors and allsorts over the floor and a fair amount of grey smoke.

What issues did you have with the Fata1ity card? Aside from issues when running on Windows Fista (what didn't have issues on there?) - it was pretty much flawless with Windows XP and Windows 7. I only stopped using it when I switched to the onboard audio on my new mobo.

If its smoked its fucked. Should have a warranty if its less than 12months, send it back for replacement.

It has a 7 year warranty. My old 520hx was great.

No issue, but my mate has a Stx and the difference is huge. Driving high end headphones isn't where the fatality stands out. Its the old pci one too so it was time for an upgrade.

I'm so annoyed right now. Its worse when there's a new sound card sitting in there and I want to experience it lol. I hope no other damage has been done to the internals lol.

Hmm not good, out of all the PSUs I've had the only one I have had fail was my Corsair one. It's on a 5 year warranty but they make you RMA it and send it out of the country, so far I've not bothered and I bought a Coolermaster replacement. On my new build spec I've put a Corsair PSU ( I thought I'd give them another try ) but seeing this I'm not so sure

Yeah ive been reading up tonight, i really dont want to RMA it. Im hoping overclockers will send me one so they can deal with it on their end. But for the time itl take, i might buy a new one, rma the corsair and sell it when it comes to it. I need a modular one, preferably, 750watt or more. Any idea whats good to get?

Well i've had no problems with my Coolermaster one so far . . .

I might sort out RMA'ing my Corsair one finally as it will come in handing for testing my new Watercooling setup.

Im seriously hoping OCUk will do the RMA themselvs, basically send me a new one, or will let me pay for an upgraded one like the 1000watt one and have the old one refunded or something. Ilve looked at coolermaster, seem good from the reviews.

If you've had it for any length of time then I don't fancy your chances at all. Thankfully I've never had to so far, but OCUK's customer service regularly gets critised, but tbh most retailers will make you RMA it with the manufacturer.

I've got my 620 Corsair out of the attic and have sent an RMA request, will be interesting to see what comes back. But I'm expecting to have to send it to the Netherlands.

I hope so Cookie !!! Ill be gutted if i get the new PSU and find that everything else has fried along with it. Ive never skimped on PSU's. in the 5 or so builds ive had in the past 6 years, ive always had Corsair. my old 520 watt lasted about 4 years after moving from some generic thing. I was suprised to see this one go.

Ive got a set of AKG K701's sat here and i cant even use them, laptop wont really drive them properly. Killing me arrr.

Rang them today, i have to post it to them, they will refund me the postage, they will check its fecked and thensend me a new one and deal with the rest on their end.

Are you sure it has a 7 year warranty? I think you mean 5, but I'm guessing your covered anyway. Did you phone OCUK or Corsair?

Post office want £28.99 to post mine to the Netherlands, going to see if I can find it cheaper elsewhere, its not worth that to me to have replaced.

OCUK are apparantly giving me the postage cost back. Sent it on monday at about 4pm, hopefully they will recieve it today.

Well they rc'd it on the 4th of this month. Ive not seen a replacement yet, i was told i would be sent a replacement within the week, by them. c***s...... Still no PC ffs. f**k Corsair and f**k OCUK.

OCUK have a pretty bad Customer Service history, so far with my new build I've managed to completely avoid buying from them and I hope that stays the same, they can't seem to touch Scan for prices these days anyway, thats before the fact I get free delivery with Scan. My Corsair is still sat here as I've not found any other way of sending it cheaper, I think I'll use it for sleeving practice then bin it.

Ive bought a new 750 HX from Ebuyer as im starting to fall behind with uni work and this is taking the biscuit now.

Ive offered them the opportunity of me buying the 850HX, if they refund me the 750 HX on RMA, they can sell the 750HX when they recieve it as a new one as it will be factory sealed, and they will have made a few extra bucks off me from buying the 850HX. They didnt want to know. I wouldnt say their service was bad really, just unwilling to go that extra mile so to speak.

Ill just have to try sell the 750 HX when i get it back for £100 or so seeing as they retail for £110 on ebuyer excluding postage. Hopefully someone will buy it.
