$5 me play for you long time...e-bay alpine

Hey guys and girls

Was checking out e-bay for headunits (just for interests sake), and found Alpine iDA-X100 head units going for 155 smackers, catch is they from china. So my question is, is this a worth while buy and has anyone been risky enough to make one of these purchases from China, if so did you experience any problems with the units or purhase?

Thanks mates, thought some input would be advisable before i go buying something over the net all the way from China:D

i think, and i say think, they foreign x100s dont pick up english radio stations, i was going to purchase one from the usa,

but like i say thats what i was told and i think thats why they are cheaper

Yeah ok but the one from "dvb audio" is an X200, the X100 (the one im talking about) is a newer model, the newest right after the X001, Also that price is just for the headunit, but with the one on e-bay i also get the connection needed to attatch the i-pod. And about the english radio stations, that aint a problem, it picks up UK, France, Italk, US and a few others:) So still on the search for a reason not to buy it from China.....anyone please?

Thanks for the input chaps:D

I will be incredibly suprised if it picks up UK radio stations. Were did you get that info from?

I buy from Hong Kong All the time, Just made 2 orders today in fact, But I wouldnt buy a head unit from abroad, You will have no warrenty and no back up should it go wrong.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/08NEW-ALPINE-...hash=item290244286096&_trksid=p3286.m14.l1318 At the bottom of the advert, in red writting it states its compatibility. But dont Alpine give out a universal factory warranty, like JBL. Cause i purchased my JBL split system in South Africa, but the JBL warranty is valid all over the world where they have JBL outlets sationed. Isnt it like that with all reputable brands, that they issue you with a universal warranty? Also with this e-bay purchase you have a 7 day return period from the date of arrival.

Our ALPINE IDA-X100 is genuine Alpine unit, the FM Radio can work in EURO,UK, Australia,ASIA, IT can Set the language to be displayed on the unit: English,French,Spanish,Russian,German,Italian,Swedish,Portuguese,Japanese,Chinese.

That is talking about the 'display' language...not the radio language.

Buy from the UK to be safe imo.

i wouldnt have thought that being from a different country would have made a difference as it works by picking up frequencies from the radio waves carried by the "electro magnetic spectrum" which would be the same way it works abroad. radio waves can only be carried so far depending on what wave they are carried on e.g long wave LW, medium wave MW amplitud modulation AM and frequency modulation or FM. and thats why you cant pick up stations from abroad but i would have thought that it would just read the frequencies overhere and play the transmissions like any other radio. plus if that was the case, car manufacturers would have to manufacture different stereos for each country they sold cars in which would cost them a sh1t load and we all know that that is an area they like to skimp in when building a car.
but i would still only buy from the uk as it is easyer to take back if faulty and your not likly to get some table tennis champion talking jibberish over the phone to you.

Sorry "lil blondie" but i beg to differ (and i maybe wrong), however it states the FM Radio can work in EURO,UK, Australia,ASIA.
Emphasis being on "FM RADIO". For the display unit it says IT can Set the language to be displayed on the unit: English,French,Spanish,Russian,German,Italian,Swedish,Portuguese, thus resulting in the "radio language" being that of what you set it, not so? seeing as radios arent living organisms which have their own dialect.

So, so far i still aint got a definite reason as to why i shouldnt make that purchase, except for the warrenty thing, but for 155 quid i rate you gotta take the good with the bad

tbh mate nobodys telling you not to buy from china. so what kind of reason are you waiting for. ive bought loads from china in the past. cheap items just sting you on postage. the only reason i wouldnt personally buy electricals from china is that you cant go into a shop to sort it out. its probably me being boring but if it goes wrong id rather speak to a person there and then about it

No mate you got me all wrong, this aint a hate forum ive posted cause people are telling me not to buy from China, im simply asking if someone can perhaps give me a solid reason as to why i shouldnt buy from China, you know like faulty products, missing parts...etc, stuff like that so that i know exaclty what the risks are of buying direct from China. Would be stupid for me to dive into the deep end without taking a crash course on how to swim....if you get what im saying:)

i have a japanese alpine HU in my garage and the fm frequencies it searches end in xxx.x5 rather than xxx.x0 so will not work in europe.

Ok so the main issue seems to be the uncertainty as to wether ill get a radio signal or not....TBH thats not really a big bother for me as i dont listen to the radio anyways. I was expecting to read responses like "i bought one and when i received it, it was actually just a plastic look alike that had no insides" or " the head unit played for a few weeks then went bust" stuff like that. But if radio clearance is the only real problem then i aint to worried really:)

Cheers ladies and gents

PS: if someone happens to read this post within the next 2 weeks and has experienced a tradgic incident with a purchase from China, then please post it and let me know;) Mega thanks

you will get a radio signal you will just not be able to get a decent lock on any station...i have bought loads from china never any problems. if feedback is good and you dont have any issues if the radio doesnt work then go for it!
