6spd gear box

  VaVa

Throw is too long. 4000rpm at 80mph in fifth. Minor gripes really. Other than than that the change its self is quite precise, and the ratios spot on. For me anyways..

throw can be sorted for about £160.

the 5th is too short i agree.

£160? is that for one of those quick shift jobbies?? - Hmmmm interesting...

Have they made any changes to the drivetrain for the 182 Tom??

New box with "longer" ratios

but its marginal.

yeah quick shift is very good sorts the throw out a treat

No Renult 6 speed box will go in easily you would need a savec or whatever one which is very expensive.

You may be best getting an uprated 5th gear if it bothers you. Ther are companies who strenghten boxes will knwo how much your looking at for a bigger 5th gear for lower revs. My guess its about £700 your looking at for a bigger 5th gear all in.

The 182 box has larger ratios but is the same box (JB5 I think) as the 172/cup.

As for top end speeds your looking at 155 but you will need some more power ~230hp to get there quick enough

my ABS has only ever cut in the snow... And then it takes you longer to stop than if you didnt have it!! It might take a while to adjust your braking methods, but you wont miss it once youve mastered cadence braking...

  172 cup,s2 rs turbo

you wont get a geniune renault 6 speed box in a clio.the 172 box is a jb or jc the 6 speed box is a pk6/pf6 and is completly different design + a lot bigger.it would never fit in.personally i can live without abs and if you look what your doing you dont normally use it unless in the event of a emergancy stop.

what you think id be looking at paying if i was to trade in my 02 plate 172 with 18000 miles on the clock ? for a cup ?

  172 cup,s2 rs turbo

the dealer would probably give you anywhere between £8000>£10,000 for yours.there wont be many brand new cups left now.

just gona have to search for one with low milage and aint been kicked fuk out of or handed back because of problems

my old 1.2 has a 4 speed gearbox!!!!!! what the hells that all about?!?!?!
very old clios did i can remember.feels odd doesnt it when you feel like you need to change into fifth.

yeh, i love gthe gearbox to be honest, till you get to about 70, then you think, right time for 5th, if i could keep the ratio and add a 5th, it would be a great gearbox, but, nevermind!

150?? In a clio?? Jee-sus!! hold on to you hat!! Mine feels nervous above 115.. (on a private test track!)
A certain Throttle bodied 172 hit 148 on GPS with 1000rpm to go IIRC

I had 145 in my 172.. Well thats what the clock was saying but i was too busy hanging on.. It wasnt gonna do much more she was about 100rpm off the limiter..

gearing on the 172 fairly short anyway. Your doing about 4000 rpm in 5th at 80. If anything it could use a 6th cruising gear
