93octane instead of 98

Does anyone know what the power loss is when using 93 instead of 98 octane fuel? 98 is not available in South Africa and I can only get 97 at the coast.

In Greece we have Bp Ultimate wich is 100ron!!!!!And Vpower racing wich is 99ron.

Of course we have 98ron fuel and 95 ron.

The clio manual says 95ron + and the manual of the Rs says 98+ron(that is because of the compression)

I personaly use Bp ultimate 100ron and I think that the car has better acceleration and little more power at the whole range of rpm.

Using the best fuel u can is the better thing u can do for your engine.

Cheers.

the car will run fine on 93, youll just lose a few kW and the timing will be retarded a bit

It depends on the situation, and the car.

Up here Subarus HAVE to run octane boosters, and other cars like the 172 and M3 will also benefit.

Im thinking about decatting my car, replacing the platinum spark plugs and running leaded fuel, which means I would have access to 102RON

Dunno how they do it in S.Africa but in general forecour fuel is either strict RON or a MON/RON average. SO a 100RON court fuel could be a 105 RON and 95MON average.

93 is low, the car will drive and adj to the lower octane, but its not gonna help you in the power stakes.

Thanks guys, I will have to try some octane booster or something. Compared to the performance I get at the coast using 97RON, my car feels much slower. At the coast it feels like it is turbo charged with lots and lots of power in every gear.

We get a product called NF Octane Booster, that can give you between 3 and 6 Ron increase on a tankfull. Will try it at some stage and give you all some feedack.

Danie,

Im seriously considering decatting my car and changing the platinum spark plugs and using leaded 102 racing fuel on track days and drag days.

Considering that even unleaded fuel in SA has other heavy metals instead of lead, the cat and plugs are being poisoned anyway.

Hi Robin. How do you modify the fuel cap to allow a leaded nozzle? The new shell and BP Unleaded is supposed to be lead free. I just wish we could get some Optimax or something. Let me know when you get it done. I am very interested to see what difference it makes. Did you race on Gerotek?

Yip I know, but leaded petrol clogs up the platinum plugs so Id be changing to ones which wouldnt be affected by the lead

I would use unleaded for normal daily driving (which means I wouldnt have to convert the fuel cap) Id just use 102 racing fuel (which is leaded) on event days.

I wonder how much it would be to get 97 up here from the coast or even if it is available at any pumps here.

No, havent run at Gerotek...thats only this weekend (18 & 19th Oct)

What effect will the decat have on the everyday driving? If you buy nf octane booster, you can get a 6-7RON increase on a 50l tank. Why not try that first?

What is the cost for 102 Racing fuel? I think they come in 20l containers?

Are you planning to run at Gerotek?
