A few niggles with my 172-please help

Hi all,

I have two issues with my 172:

a) I've had it about six months and every so often it splutters before it actually starts. Could this be fuel pump problem?

b) I also have strange electrical problem. When i hit the breaks the dash rear fog light always comes on??
Also my hazards only work when the ignition is on? Probably related.

Any advice much appreciated

a) unsure - possibly could be the spark plugs?

b) is a faulty earth somewhere - normally behind the dash. Take the dash off, find the earthing point and make sure its properly secured.

I know plugs were changed by the previous owner just before i got it. 99% of the time it starts fine, no problems.

I'm far from being a mechanic. Is removing the dash on the Clio a tricky job?

Not at all it takes about ten minutes. Being French, they pull apart quiet easily lol!

There is a guide in the members section with detailed instructions on how to do it.
