A Hello and some questions

  hyundai Coupe
Hello all, as you can see its my firsts post (go easy)

abit of background, to be honest ive seen myself as a small car person, but im slowly starting a company (alloy wheel refurbishments so need to sell my 2 current cars 2005 Hyundai Coupe and my Rover mini so that will leave me with money to buy a van and equipment and a Clio 172 until i can get a Audi TT with ive been looking for since Jan (don't slate me i just think there nice!).

so my questions, will i regret it? having big cars to small? i have heard alot about them and seems you cant get much better for the money?

would anyone mind a short review and 'what i would in for' with a 172

Thanks in Advance
Nick

I won't say anything about the TT situation! :p But the Clio's are cracking cars, you won't get much more in the way of bang for buck. Drive them right, you will see high 30mpg, give them some beans and you'll be smiling from ear to ear. There not the quickest in term of straight line speeds, but make up for it in the bends.

Ive never had a big car, so can't really comment on that, although ive never thought to my "I need a bigger car" but i am only 20!

When going to look at them, the biggest thing to check is that the belts have been done, as these can cost! If they have, make sure you have proof and make sure the work has been carried out by a specalist, there's been many occurances where the 'local' garage has done the belts, and it always ends in problems!

Best thing to do would be to pay membership to gain access into the 'Car For Sale' section, that way you can track the history through here aswell!

Hopes this helps and Welcome along!

no worries, another thing to check when testdriving is the gearbox, as these are quite weak is abused. Got 2 mini's in my family, i would say they are of similar size.

Yeah there are, there's a section in the forum that organises all meets. Im from Salisbury so not too far away!

I would become a full member then you can go in your Section and see if any meets are local to you

172's are great cars, not slow and you can get great MPG also

Hot hatches are definitely the most fun! My Clio 182 is the most fun car I've had and probably will ever have! Other than the belts the Clio's are pretty cheap to maintain, and pretty reliable, good Mpg if you want it and also bloody good fun! :) I wouldn't hesitate to recommend a 172/182 to anyone wanting cheap fun, you won't do much better!

Also I went round Europe in 2 1/2 weeks and did 3700 miles and the 182 didn't miss a beat, was comfortable, used cruise and also it was lots of fun as well! Averaged 39 Mpg and hit 138mph on Autobahn.. :) Basically get a 172, you'll love it!! Get a late one with cruise if you can, not sure on your budget though...
