A new sky+ box..

Hi all,

My girlfriend wanted a Sky+ box for her room, they already have it in her room and downstairs.

Her mum just called sky and they said an addtional box is £200 plus £60 installation !

Is this right?

It can be yes!

You can sometimes get a better deal from them....
refurb box etc..

Installation, they will need to run another pair to her room.

And more then likely change the LNB as you will have a quad only.

Also remember the extra £10 subscription.

Yep, robbing b******s. If she already has sky in her room and has two lnb feeds you can get a box off ebay, transfer the card over and call sky. They should talk you through setting it up on the phone.

thats bulls**t, they pay £50 a month... she has sky in her room already and they want £260!!!!

Yup.

Only way is either do it yourself and then ring up for a new card for her and activate her new multiroom subsription.

Or catch them when they are feelign good with offers, or talk the price down ;)

or slip my mate some cash and he can give you the cable, run it, change the lnb and maybe even get you a box on the cheap! He works for sky LOL

There is no additional subscription for Sky+ anymore.

There still is.

Altho if you have a premium channel then you dont pay it.

But the extra £10 subscription i was talking about there is the Multiroom one for the extra card in that room.

Sky+: Sky+ box £199 with Sky TV, £99 when you join Sky TV online or £292.64. Sky+ can store an average of 40 hours of programmes. Sky+ subscription required for Personal Video Recorder features (free for Sky TV customers with a premium service, or £9.75 pm).

Ok, so its reduced because of the VAT change hehe, but still in the terms & cons.

As i said before, its waived if you have a premium channel or two.

Sky know that you have to buy a box of them as only ur card is twined with the unit, so they charge so much for the box to offset the actual cost of the instlation as they know people can do it them self for £50 down maplin.

Have a word Has if your being charged, I've not been charged for probably the best part of a year!

Going to kick up a fuss now!

Were well over any 12 month contract so no issue there.

Just flicked thru the last 6 bills. ALL have a £10 Sky Sub charge on them

Having HD put in tomorrow for £99, fitted!

Phoned them up normally to see if they would do any deals to which they werent budging at all so gave up with them and hung up.

Called back 10 mins later, this time going to the cancellations dept, threatened them that I would go to Virgin (of which i had no intention to) and they threw it at me with no hesitation with free installation.

:approve:
