AAC vs MP3

in short which is better? Recently tried to burn an Mp3 disc only to find any of the tunes ripped by my mac had been set to a default of AAC rip (subsequently any music i had on hard copy (lots) i cant rip to an mp3 disc to play in the car) is it worth deleting all of my music and ripping my whole collecting again as mp3 format or not? is there any difference in sound quality or compression rate between the two? Any info would be good, ta :D

I thought AAC just effected the quality you where importing the music in, I have just seen its not then!

From Apple help

You can listen to songs encoded in AAC or Apple Lossless formats in iTunes and on iPods that come with a dock connector. If you plan to listen to your music using a different program or MP3 player, choose MP3 Encoder.

To save re-ripping it all - try and burn the disc from Toast rather than Itunes and see if that converts it to a format you can play in the car.

I used to create the cds this way for my old Alpine without any problems.

Learn something new every day ;) I only noticed when it wouldnt Burn a disc in MP3 format on any of the albums i had ripped from my hard copies, started digging about and found its set to default a rip in AAC not MP3. I'll have a look for toast and have a bash with that, dont fancy putting several hundred albums on again, took several days solid over xmas and new year.

LOL! I have been ripping all my recent Cd's using AAC, so I could be having to do the same. Doh!

I wont be so bothered when i get round to getting an ipod in the next couple of months but if any of my mates want me to burn them an MP3 disc or i need to burn any to use in my HU then it might cause me problems.
