ABS light on, death imminent?

  Ph2 Clio 172
So, after rounding a corner at 50 only to discover a broken down bus, it turns out the ABS light isn't just there to look pretty :p

Mine keeps coming on randomly. It will go weeks without appearing, and then suddenly come on. Sometimes it comes on within minutes of setting off, others (like today) it will take well over an hour of driving before it suddenly decides to come on. Today it just came on while I was driving down the motorway, I didn't touch the brakes and hadn't done so for about 30 miles.

Usually stopping the engine and starting again clears it within a few hundred meters.

What should I be looking for? The annoying thing is that its usually cleared by the time I get home so I haven't been able to plug my OBDII reader in, not that I'm expecting it to be able to read the codes.

Should still have logged it (I was able to get mine with an RSTuner after the light had gone out). ABS on its own will probably be a wheel sensor, and if it's got a few other lights too (ABS & ESP & Serv) it's normally the brake light switch.

It should log a fault code, light or no light.

Ah ok. Will a standard Ebay bought OBDII adapter read it? Or will it need a Renault reader/RSTuner?

Just the ABS light and the SERV light at the moment.

Ebay OBDII code reader will not read it unless its an ABS reader also. My standard codes reader never done my faults.

The RSTuner will read the code but only if you have the ABS module from fastchips.nl as this needs to be bought at an extra cost.

My ABS light and SERV light where on but i had 3 sensors out, 2 fronts and one rear. My rear sensor was £118.41+vat from renault.
I tried almost every motor factor in the UK could not get one as it came with ESP.
My work even has an account with Bosch UK and they could not get one.

I do know there is a cheaper ABS Sensor for the 1*2's so you might be lucky

No luck with my OBD2 reader.

Anyone in Surrey with an RSTuner want to meet for a pint and read my codes (oo er)?

£118 is scary expensive :(
