active sub or amp and sub ?

my headunit has 1x pre out.
so do i have to have a active sub or can i still put in an amp and a sub ?

and is there any preference to which is betters? cheers

sub and amp combo not an active one.

plus if you get a decent amp they normally come with a pre-out pass through so you can connect as may in a chain as you like (within reason)

yeah but with a pre out pass through you can run another amp for anything else

yeah the amp drives the sub the amp just gets the signal from the head unit

an active sub can be the easier cheaper option, but i think sound purists would say get seperate sub and amp, plus as said you can then link in future.

for general use though theres nout wrong with an active sub, your shiny new kenwood, uprated components, and an active sub would sound pretty swwweeeet bud

also they tend to be tuned to be loud as they tend to use under powered amps so you lose alot of sound quality

My Stereo in my van has one pre-out.

I It goes....

Stereo-------Active sub----Daisy chained----Active Sub.

And just 6x9's and front coax's running off the headunit. Simple set up that took less than 2 hours to install and will take less then 20 minutes to remove should I need to.

Proper proper loud too.

wiring wise its the same, but with an active you can easily just bungee it to the cargo hoops, with a sub and amp youd have to drill holes

b****cks to having a sub held in with bungy cables. No.

Separate amp and sub. 100%. Get a 4 channel amp, bridge two of them for the sub and amp some front components. All the sound quality and volume you'll ever need.

probably weighs more, and yes you can, in my LCR i had some crappy fly active that was 'fitted' with a cargo net thing to the cargo hoops, was never a problem and took only seconds to remove on track days/when needing the full boot.

im not saying this is what should be done but pointing out that its an easy option which will suit some

Doesn't matter really. Just depends what you prefer. You don't 'have' to drill holes to secure it. Super strength Velcro will do the job, however in a major crash it probably wouldn't hold
