Adding DVD drive to my PC, Q?

  Turbo'd MX-5 MK4
dell's are very easy, the main case usually opens very easily and the drives just slide in and out, you'll need to make sure the jumper on the back of the drive is set to 'cs' (cable-select) and attach it to a spare inferace connection and power lead, once that's done the OS will just detect it and it will automatically be ready for use.

Just a straight swap for the drive you have, I personally wouldn't bother having 2 drives in my system.

I wouldn't pay £62 for a Dell specific one, just get a standard recorder for £25-£30.

Cheers guy!

I have a cd drive, and theres a blank space under it where the dvd drive must go.

I'll just have to give it a bash.:)

You mean get rid of the cd and replace with dvd drive?

Where can i get one that would be compatible?

Do you just want a drive that reads DVD's or writes them to?

Any dvd drive / writer will be compatible. You can also pick up dvd writers for under £20 from comp shops.

Well it personal choice really, personally I don't see any compelling reason to have 2 drives when 1 will do everything.

Just about any standard drive will work. Ebuyer/dabs etc, I also like SVP

I usually go for NEC or Pioneer stuff. Just make sure you get one in black to match the case ;)

No not bothered about writing them, just want to get gaming:)

If i replace the cd for dvd drive can i still use it as i have been doing before, for importing and burning music(cd's)

To burn CD's you need a drive capable of burning, if you've been doing this then you have a CD Writer, not just a CD reader.

Replacing the drive with a DVD Reader would mean you would not be able to burn CD's.

If you replaced it with a DVD Writer then you could read and write both CD's and DVD's.

I picked up my DVD RW from PC World in the "brown box" section for about £35 last year.
