Adelaide/Australia now a Clio 172 RS Phase 2 owner

  Clio Sport 172 MK2
Howdy all,

So was looking at a 2nd car that was going to be a bit of fun (Rav4 - aka mums taxi is the daily driver). So had the following shortlist (all around 2000-2007)
  • Polo GTI 9N
  • Fiesta ST (called a XR4 in Australia)
  • Clio 182 RS
Had the gumtree alerts going and this Clio 172 Sport,2002, black, popped up, well below budget and only 116k on the clock, so snapped it up.

Interior is good, barring the driver seat, bit of wear and small part of the stitching (1cm) is coming apart.
Exterior is ok/bad, a couple of small dents but to be expected for 15 year old car. But!! the paint on the roof and bonnet is bad, so faded, obviously left in the Aussie sun too long.
Mechanics, purring like a well fed cat
Wheels the 15 inches that came with Aussie delivered models are peeling, but the tyres are very good

So got it into the mechanic for a service and check over (cheap and low kms, something must be up), mechanically its good (engine, running gear etc etc). But the scan turned up some issues : D072, D165, D067, D105, D128 some airbag stuff among others. Is there a thread/link that outlines all the codes in detail?
Plans
  • Clay bar, compound and polish - lets see if this paint job has some life in it (am I wasting my time?)
  • Fix stitching on the drivers seat
  • Look into the common airbag codes fixes, get another scan (mechanic will do this free ongoing)
  • Got some alerts running on wheels, looking at 16s, with 195/45/16 tyres, will most 4x100s fit?
  • Tinting
  • Upgrade stereo head unit and speakers (bass is s**t and kinda addicted to Bluetooth these days)

No cement idea,
I'm the 3rd owner. 2nd owner had it for a couple of months but his daughter hated the manual, she now has a lancer auto :)
Aussie sun is hardcore, I assume its that. Clear coat damage? Roof is real bad, bonnet a little better, but doors and sides are very good. Hence my assumption of sun damage.
Some spots on the roof (that looks like bird s**t) actually looks good, hence I have hope in the claybar etc

Not sure what you have to do with the car in term of driving, i.e. Just road use? Track time? But everyone here is buying 15" wheels as it's cheaper for tyres and when lowering the car it's better for suspension clearances etc

Enjoy bud

Just road use, some hills driving. Wasn't planning on lowering it.
Didn't the EU version come with 16s?
