Advice on improving mpg?

  Mk2 172 Cup
At the minute I'm getting 26mpg in my 172 cup with k&n and stealth exhaust
How can I improve my mpg other then driving more careful, correctly inflated tyres and a service?
any advice would be appreciated
thanks

  Whichever has fuel
Lambda sensors are massively overlooked and if they're old and crap they'll play havoc with the mpg's.

I've just replaced the pre-cat one (b**ch of a job!), hoping that will sort out my issues!

No more than 35% throttle, large following distances, don't brake as soon as you see brake lights, keep rolling at traffic lights. Take some IAM lessons.

I get 34mpg regardless, doesn't matter if I'm gunning it of being nice. 44 on mway is my record. Rstuner helps as the engines drink fuel when cold let alone on the crap std map.

When was the car last serviced? When were the belts done? Is the timing out? Are the tyres at the right psi? As Daniel said, swap the lambda sensors around (the one plugged into the cat does very nearly f**k all),

Agreed mate. Air seems to be a killer. I had the Frp doing 12mpg due to a split breather hose somewhere. My Dad mentioned the car would simply be throwing in fuel like mad.

Drove like a different car afterwards.

Depends on your types of journeys and how you drive.

Rural should be high 30s to low 40s. Round town should be high 20s to low 30s.
