Aerial Mast only removal?

Evening lads, this query may have been covered before, I have a mk1 clio ph3, I have a universal short aerial I'd like to fit, but the mast is screwed on super tight. I don't want to remove the base, just the long aerial, is there a special method or technique?

Have you tried using some pliers with a rag or microfibre wrapped around the aerial to prevent damage?

Get some latex gloves on and twist it? Pliers with some tissue/cloth wrapped around it? Maybe it's glued on to prevent people from stealing it, heard a few people do this.

I've used spanners, an adjustable wrench, pliers, 17 years really shows strength. May spray a little wd-40 . I'm weaker than I thought lol
