air selecter very stiff

when i try get the air on to the front dashboard using the controls next to the heat control its very stuff i cannot get it all the way onto the setting i want how can i fix this?

is there any wires hanging down behind it stopping it turning easily?

ill have another look but i had a look on saturday and its like a cable thats on say a push bike the brakes lol thats best i can describe it. im thinking maybe i can just losen the cable a bit i think its not letting me turn it cos that cable is to tight.
