Alarm red light next to gear stick??

Whats the crack with this lol? Do some have this and not all? My mate says its aftermarket alarm but im sure ive seen a few like this?

if the alarm plays up, that little led will flash in certain ways, you should have an alarm manual in your service pack which states all this

The cat 1 alarm was a dealer fit after import into the UK. cars without the alarm and attached light are either imports or the lazy dealer couldn't be bothered to fit it before delivery.

That's what I thought until I sat in my mates 2004 182 that was purchased new from a well known UK dealer in Cambridge. No alarm fitted.

My standard 182 alarm is getting ripped out next week for something decent, stupid thing never worked properly anyway!.........and as i found out it doesn't immobilise the engine, mine went off last week and i could still start the engine.

If you started the engine with the key then the immobiliser would have been switched off due to the key being in the ignition.

Yes true but a cat 1 alarm has to immobilise the engine itself with a closed circuit, if i could start the engine then the alarm itself did nothing but make a noise, wouldn't stop someone stealing your car, leaving aside the renault key activated engine immobiliser which most renaults have even if they don't have an alarm.

In comparison the Toad system i am getting next week has two independant immobilisers so then the car will have three in total with the standard renault key one.
