Alternator issue

Hi this isn't a Clio problem but I figure your guys may be able to help.

My friend Dave's Rover 25 wouldn't start, We replaced the battery (5 months old, Left standing for a month), And the car started first time, However after 10 minutes of idling, the battery warning light came on dash and the lights dimmed but the car was still running fine.

The car was left standing for a week, Today went to start the car again and nothing, It needed to be bumped started, The car ran but the electrics (dials, Windows etc) didnt work.

Is this a battery or alternator issue?

i'd say alt.

check the current and voltage at the battery when running.
