Amp

having spent the weekend refitting my ice after some cnuts tried to nick it the other week, i thought id chuck my sub in this time aswell - the thing is that im planning on using the one 4 channel amp to power my front components and my sub, so how do i make my sub be a sub and not just an extra large speaker because if i change the settings on my head unit then this will change my front comps into subs aswell or is this just me being extra stupid as its a monday? thats if anyone even understands what im talking about? lol

You should have a high and low pass setting on the crossover on your amp for each pair of channels. Therefore you should use 2 of the channels for the front comps and bridge the sub across the other 2. Make sure the amp can take the load of the sub though. If its a dual 4ohm sub then most amps wont like it bridged.

Set the subs crossover to low pass and the comps to high pass and send a full range signal from the headunit...job done......hopefully!!!!

You need a 4 channel amp.

2 channels to power the left and right components, and the other two channels bridged into mono.

The main answer to your question is to check that the amp has independant crossovers. This is so you can set a low-pass filter on the two channels that go to the sub (filtering out higher frequencies), and set a high-pass filter on the channels going to the components (filtering out lower frequencies).

Any good I.C.E. shop should know exactly what you mean, or if you are planning on buying from the Internet, give me a shout and Ill suggest some amps to you.
