wrong, you can amp a std head unit. you can get cables that attatch to the std speaker wires and give you RCA connectors you then run these to the amp as usual, if the amp has a low pass/high pass filter then you can set it to filter out the high and mid frequences if not you can connect a treble blocker which will do this for you.
