Anooying 'ticking' noise from engine?

Can hear it on idle and even more so when driving (if I'm alongside a wall or something and the sound deflects back of it).

Sounds a bit like a quiet version of a noisy tappetty 80s/90s Ford engine!

My last ph1's didn't sound like this ever, which makes me think it could be this carbon cannister thing? Thoughts? Just sounds cheap and nasty!

Mine done the same turned out to be the waterpump.

oh bum! there aren't any leaks from what I can see......yet. Not too bad a fix on a cup?

no mine didn't leak it just made a racket it is run on the aux belt not the timing belt

It probably isn't that anyway just a suggestion..

Can be numerous things > carbon cannister, injectors, etc etc

Ok thanks. Why would injectors make such a noise? Just dirty? Gonna remove the carbon cannister this weekend then to eliminate that possibility. Easy enough by the sounds of it?

cheers. yeah im 90% sure it's that from reading up on here. So will be first port of call. Will update to let all know! So annoying when no one posts the solutions!

Carbon canister for sure, remove it.

Seen a few threads on here suggesting to remove it or just disconnect.

Which is the best/easiest option for a mechanical mong like me?? Can I just unplug the sensor from the top and that will get rid of the noise? Or is ot the filter itself that ticks?

Didn't remove it, just unplugged the electric plug that goes into the top. No EML on yet, got some 23 or 27 ohm resistors to whack in in case it does. Not really noticed any quieter engine. but can smell the fuel on start up!
