Anti Door Dent Side Strip MK4

  Renault Clio 1.2 TCE100
Hi Guys,

I'm new to the forum as you can see, and tonight I pick up my a new Clio 1.2 Turbo TCE100. I realise it isn't the Cliosport I wanted but I'm off back to uni and need something slightly more economical after selling my Civic Type R :(

Anyway, I'm looking forward to it and I have bought it in glacier white with tinted windows. However, the side strip bumper thing (never known its name) is black along with 2 small ones on the rear of the car and I've never been so bothered by something in all my life. To illustrate what I mean:

and I want it to be like:

Just obviously in white.

What can I do? My Renault salesman isn't much help and body shops don't seem to know what the hell I'm talking about. I've thought about spraying it but I bet that'll look rubbish.

Cheers in advance.

I'm sure there is a guide on here. It doesn't look that difficult. If I were you I'd have a go first.

PS: That's a Mk3.

That is perfect. Exactly what I want. Thing is, as you have one in black the plastic never looks too bad. I presume they would do it in white. Ok lots of questions:

Where did you get that done?
Did it affect the Renault warranty?
What is it they actually do if they don't replace the parts?
Linked to above, if you sprayed the plastic it wouldn't be shiney like the paint work, however yours is.
Doing it myself, would it look dull and plasticy still?

Thanks again.

Where did you get that done? A body shop I would imagine
Did it affect the Renault warranty? No it wont
What is it they actually do if they don't replace the parts? They paint the plastic
Linked to above, if you sprayed the plastic it wouldn't be shiney like the paint work, however yours is. There is no reason it wouldn't be shiney...
Doing it myself, would it look dull and plasticy still? If you do a bad job it will look dull. Pay a pro if you aren't confident

Thanks again.

they just painted the parts mate, obviously you need to sand out / flat back any texture on the bump strips, so you get a smooth finish. then 3 coats of primer, 3 coats of paint, 3 coats of laquer. job done

Oh really? That's brilliant. Over my 8 cars this has never been an issue before so I had literally no idea what to do. So would any bodyshop do this?

Anyone know of anywhere in Herts/Essex with a good reputation?

yeah mate, or you can give it a bash yourself first as diy it would only cost like £30 where as a body shop could charge anywhere up to £200.

sign up to full membership mate there are a few guides regarding painting plastic body trim parts

Where did you get that done? A private, local bodyshop.
Did it affect the Renault warranty? It will mean the plastics are no longer under Renault's manufacture's warranty however I don't see what could go wrong with a lump of plastic!
What is it they actually do if they don't replace the parts? No, the parts a rubbed down with a sander, until completely smooth. Then sprayed like a normal piece of bodywork, with perhaps the addition of plastic primer.
Linked to above, if you sprayed the plastic it wouldn't be shiney like the paint work, however yours is. Get them done professionally, they will have the same finish as the rest of the metal paintwork.
Doing it myself, would it look dull and plasticy still? I wouldn't bother, I helped my dad colour code plastics on his car and they didn't turn out too well. If you want an A1 finish, get the done by a pro. DIY finish won't be as good unless you have access to professional equipment.

Hope that answered all of your questions!

You've been a great help mate, cheers. I don't think I'll try it myself, I've been known to bodge things in the past, I'd rather fork out £140 notes. Now I need to track down a reputable place to do it!

Where are you located? I'd budget £150-£200. Mine was done by a professional on the side.

I'm in Hertfordshire. I can travel about a bit if I'm going to get the best price and it look professional. The black plastic on beautiful glacier white paint is disgusting! :boring:

I know a guy who is a professional BMW sprayer and does work on the side, located in Hatfield. I'll PM you his contact details.
