Anyone had them f**k up? what exactly will it do if they are gubbed? How much and how hard are they to replace?

I changed mine two months ago. They cost about £8 each and they a a bit difficult to mount.
I changed mine because I got some play in the steering wheel. Changing them helped. The car response better now too small movements.

They basically pull themselves apart Iain, they can just loose the top part of the bolt and you'll be able to pull the roll bar down with your arm - not good. As Ulle said, only cheap, worth doing them as a pair aswell.

Theres 2 types, the pin and nut type can be a git to change on your own, the slide on slide off type are easier. You can do it on stands with a trolley jack and bit of wood under the arm.
