Any ideas why my vaio won't boot?

It switches on, fan goes, cd drive goes and then it stays on the first screen! Any ideas?

I'd back up all your stuff if I was you

Either that or you had a memory stick plugged in and it was trying to boot off of that. I once ended up taking my PC apart trying to figure out why it didn't boot only to realise I had left my phone plugged in and it was trying to boot off of the SD card in that.

Any funny noises from the machine like spinning up sounds? As said, I would backup all your data, HD might be on the way out.
