Has anyone got any ideas on what is the best way to remove this left overduct tape a previous owner used to "fix" a leaky sunroof

Meths , elbow grease and patience.
No seriously methylated spirit will break down the glue, just use maybe a microfibre cloth and keep on rubbing in little circles on small bits at a time.

The activator spray for 2 part super glue lifts this stuff up a treat, stinks mind... Obviously don't use the glue just the spray

Ahem , why not? But petrols ok is it? Methylated spirits does exactly the same thing as petrol, breaks down the glue. I used to work in the signfitting industry and used to vinyl windows etc, and everybody uses meths to remove and clean surfaces of old glue residue and such like. It works perfectly well.
