Anyone clued up on burning/formats etc etc

ok i bought this, it came today and ive tried a few stuff i burnt to dvdr disc.

after trying 6 discs it played half and the other half it either wouldnt play or would play but without picture, just sound.

I basically just burnt stuff straight from my PC to a dvd disc and banged it into the machine, no settings were altered. Im guessing i need to make some alterations for them to play?

What would be the first thing i look for and how should i burn it.

first thing is find out what its playing ,

div x
x vid
mpeg

ect , remember on divx and xvid theres quite a few variations, u can get some proggys for pc where u show it the file and itll give u the spec of the file.

see if theres a umax software update for the player
