anyone got a cheap netbook for wirless surfing

  Ibiza FR
I've got a Samsung N130, same spec as that one :) It's perfect for browsing the web, listening to music etc, and has never skipped a beat!
Although I'm looking to install OSX on mine soon ;)

We run about 18 netbooks at work, a mix of samsung N130's and N150's. For anything other than surfing the web then dont bother.

Other than that...yeah they are good. :)

Get one running XP.

The little atom processors and low ram simply can't handle the modern shitty versions of windows.

As above, Samsung seem to be the best in reviews. I'd avoid anything Acer, but that's just me.

I'd say 7 runs better on old machines overall compared to XP. I've stuck it on loads now and it's always been fine.

Mum had an NC10 running xp, was ace, could stream HD on it fine.

Got stolen, replaced by insurance with an identical spec NC10+ but with 7 on it, runs like a bag of shite, really slow, cant stream low res youtube its so bad. I'd of sent it back tbh.

I hate modern windows, I prefer xp to any other version of windows, easier to use, easier to fix when it breaks, better compatibility, just better all round imo

This. I done all my qualifcations on XP. Windows 7 takes me twice as long to do anything and its a pile of schit.

Might have had a lot of crap on it....
I admit after a fresh install XP will probably run quicker but a fresh install of 7 will keep the average user running quicker over a longer period of time before they f**k it up...

But if you did the same said qualification's and spent 10 years using it'd be just as quick/easy to do things.

I think you missed the point.

Windows 7 in general had lost all the 'quick' routes to things like Windows XP. For example changing an IP/DNS server on windows has more steps than XP.

Is that so, we are supposed to be moving from xp to 7 at work in the next few months, I can see our department migrating back to xp within just a few weeks and just the office staff sticking to 7. The above being one reason.

it's pretty much >start > control panel > network (name varies obv) > identify which network you are changing > properties > ip/tcp properties on both OS's :||

I've got a Lenovo S10 I got cheap in an offer a couple of years ago, battery is pap but otherwise it's been fine.

Running Windows 7 on it and it's actually pretty nippy, boots up and shuts down quickly and is perfect for general web browsing and great for just sticking in a bag when going away somewhere.

It is indeed, its like the long way for everything. More friendly for your average user but more of a hinderance to an advanced user.
