aol connection

i'm using aol broadband. Is it possible to connect to the internet without opening the aol software?

I never use the aol program for browsing and it gets in the way.

no probs, want to rid the world of aol software! installing it step by step is the most painful process ever! but once I got rid of it works great, good ping and download speeds...
