apex -40mm springs(anyone got them)

hello. i have the 1.4 16v new shape clio dynamique. i just bought a set of h and r coilovers and they didnt fit! so i have some apex 40mm springs on the way, somebody please tell me they deffinately fit! + has anybody put 18s on the new clio without arch mods, baring in mind i will have 40mm springs on there. cheers neil

Im running the Apex -40mm springs but I just had the garage measure them up against my mates identical car (cos I felt they were a lot lower) and right enough I actually get a 55mm drop rear with my ICE in the boot, and 45mm front, as the springs seem to compress quite easily with additional weight (which makes sense as theyre not as firm a ride as some other springs). They handle very well, without any harshness, and looks-wise I reckon theyre alright, as long as you go for at least 17s, cos the arch space is still too big with any smaller rims (Ive tried 14"s, 15"s and 16"s on before I bought my 17"s). If youre gonna have ICE in the boot youll be sorted!

  EK9 + Mfactory gearing..

r-tec have put 18s on a 172 with no arch rolling, and david at k-tek had 18s on his wifes 172...the ride was a touch bumpy he said.

R-Tec have put 19"s on with no arch rolling! But alas at standard ride height... thus creating the worlds largest rollerskate!! 18"s will go on with no rolling, but only if some of the inner arch linings (sh*tguards just behind the rear bumper at the outside of the spare wheel well) are out the way. On my car, mine needed tied back on one side to avoid scrubbing with 17s and I know a couple of other people that have had to do the same.

ye, i got 17s ,got 37mm offset and one wheel at the back rubs on full lock but it doesnt help with my tyre selection...AR539 i think...they have a ridge nr the edge.

tbh with a car the size of a clio..i think wheels bigger than 17s are just silly...but as with everything...its personal choice

Frankly, I wish I had bigger wheels. Bearing in mind the difference to the look of the car (and the amount of attention attracted) from 17s, 18s would be brilliant. The daddys and Andys cars both look great on 18s, and imho the wheels dont look too big, in the way that I think they sometimes do on cars like 206s and Corsas.

But as you rightly pointed out, the whole modding things about individual taste. And much the better and more interesting the scene is for it. Personally Im not a fan of huge, gaping meshed protruding valances or crazy flip paints, but many people love these touches, and I can appreciate what theyre doing. Each to his own I say.

should be ordering my 17s next month..think im going for oz titans love them!

specially since i just noticed chips out my front alloy..looks like pot hole damage!

damn the scottish roads

Fred, what do you mean Im talking rubbish?? In which of my posts exactly was I talking rubbish - I was simply reporting the facts - I had scrubbing from my rear inner arches (irrespective of ride height) against the sides of the tyre wall and I had to tie back the arch liners in behind the bumper with plastic cable ties! Thats the truth! It might have been because the rear end of my car has been repaired after a minor accident tho and they jigged the back end and refitted the rear bumper.

But a friend of mine with an S-reg 1.2 8v had to have his tied back as well for his 17s and he didnt even have his lowered.

Perhaps theres a difference because yours is a mk2 Fred?

I wasnt having a go mate, i was just taking the piss!!!! Calm down!!!! You know what im like about 40mm Vs 60mm!!!! 40mm you cant go under low bridges, everyone knows that!!!!!

Sorry if i offended!!!:D

No, not at all, its alright. I realised you were joking afterwards, was in a bit of a funny mood earlier when I posted that reply! I sounded like I was ready to suggest stepping outside for a square go! lol

Anyway, youre just jealous cos my cars actually now lower than yours - well it must be since it scrubs on the arches!! ;)

Nah, its Primas that attract them mate! I was in at my dealer ordering a new parcel shelf last week and there were these two boys (I use that work with some hesitation!), bent as a two pound note and camper than the Graham Norton fan club, obviously partners, buying a set of carpet mats for their turquoise Prima. I had to bite my lip to stop myself sniggering at the way they were choosing them (ie. holding them up against themselves, stroking the velour feel, browsing through the different colour schemes) - I nearly pissed myself!!
