Applying wax by hand..



  No more clio's for me!
Is there a skill/method for this or is it just scoop it up, rub together and slap it on (putting it bluntly!) lol

Is it easier to get a more even coverage doing by hand rather than with a applicator pad? :S

only certain waxes etc work by hand.

I use zymol titanium.

bet thing to do is get a realls small amount on your fingers then use the heat of your hands to melt it then rub it on using straight lines.

best to only do small sections at a time i.e the bonnet needs to be done in 3 sections.

I'm looking at getting some victoria concours wax which should hopefully bring out the red of the trophy a bit. :)

Any paste waxes can be applied by hand though the ingredients of some mean this may not be wise. Personally I don't bother warm the wax up with the old fingers if need be and apply with an applicator.

Whats you're thoughts on the victoria concours waX? I'm torn between this and the pinnacle series II?!

I apply Zymol by hand, but then it's usually pretty hard when it comes out of the fridge. I really need to set aside some time to do mine properly.

At least I gave the engine bay a wipe rich.

Can I just ask what are the advantages of keeping the wax in the fridge? Surely room temperature is better?

I have no idea mate. I'm sure Rich will know. I just did what it said on the instructions. You are best to remove it for an hour or so to let it soften before you apply it.

Just thinking about it logically though - if you have to warm it up anyway then just doesn't seem worth it, although I guess waxes contain biological ingredients which may be preserved better in a friedge.

Just be carefull not to confuse it with the Lurpak...

I suppose it's a bit like butter or icecream. If you ever let those melt and go soft then refreeze them they are never as nice.

Possibly...!

I store all mine at room temperature and seem fine to me, although my most expensive wax is currently less than £30 - if I had gone for a top of the range pot I would sit on it like an egg if the instructions said to!

Only Titanium Dan. I don't think I've even used it on the Trophy. I may have topped up some of Jays work, but I've never done it properly. I've never had any complaints about the results.

I really need to find the time to give the paintwork a proper going over. Maybe if it's dry at the weekend I'll do it then.

Sure its not bad - seems to be the perfect wax for a Trophy based on the description but the only real test is trying it yourself! Only £57 shot... ;)

I would look to spend more on other things before the wax - good polish, sealant, tyre dressings, mf cloths and applicators, foam applicators, wool mitt before the wax.

But if you have those already then nothing stopping you.

I am very happy with the 50/50 I am using but will probably go for the Swisswax Onyx after Rich's and other peoples recommendations. Won't spend any more on the Clio though - and think even the 50/50 provides excellent depth to the paint.

Yeah I've got most of those covered from when I last had a spend on cleaning stuff. I could use a few more bits and bobs, but I've got enough for now. I'll just chuck the MF cloths in the washer this evening when I pop round my parents. I always wash the car round their so I don't make a mess of my new drive. lol

I'll wait until I'm out of Titanium before I buy anymore.

The wax in the fridge is a 'Zymol thing' a bit like there bull about the special zymes in the wax doing there thing IMO, some of the geeks ;) on detailing world have wax fridges now, I just keep mine in the Cupboard as long as it is cool.

I got some Titanium on Ebay when it was cheap for 40 odd quid, don't really like it or the Carbon I have that much - Onyx and Saphir are both much better in ease of use and looks.

Lee would not bother with the Rouge, stick to Titanium if your happy with it or look at some Swissvax Saphir.
