Are all Renault Dealers crap

Just been to my local renault dealer and went for a test drive in a 182 with cup chassis!

First the salesman put fuel in! When I drove off I asked if there was a problem as the fuel light was on and the fuel guage was empty??? Answer "I put in £2.00 - thats company policy!

Then he asked me to drive a route that I can only describe as built up urban 30 to 40mph limit!! I requested we go towards some country roads to test the car but he states that theres not enough fuel to get anywhere!!!!????

We headed back towards the dealer after 5-10 mins of 30-40mph driving!!! Didnt even get chance to rev over 4K!!

I stated that I will no way purchase this car from this test drive unless you allow me to have an extended drive! He replied "we dont normally allow this as we get a lot of joy riders etc......."

I left asking him to ring me if he gets permission for me to have an extended test drive!!

What a pile of p*#

Whats worse is that my missus bought a clio from them a few years back which was on thier database!

Is this normal??????

I went for a look in the local Renault dealer, asked if I could test drive the 182 Cup they had, hadnt even finished asking him and the keys were thrown in my direction ! The missus and myself spent 40 mins on our own booting it around the place !

as far as test drives go then you usually get a better one than that, Id probably go elsewhere.

To answer the are renault dealers all crap, then generally, yes.

Not in my experience.

When I test drove a 172 at Wests in Clapham they just gave me the keys and said "see you later". The car actually belonged to the sales manager as well. I had it for a good hour just me and the missus, no ride along sales man watching the speedo.

Hmmm...Id expect to turn up at the dealers and get a decent test drive no questions asked as Dai said.

When I test drove the 172 I was asked if I wanted to come back for a longer test drive and If I had any routes Id like to go on if I did!

I forgot about this but when I was looking at buying the 172 the first time around, I went to the same dealer and he let me go out in the car on my own too. They seem good for sales there but I would not trust them with my car for servicing or repair !

Bought a Focus and Mondeo last year and in both cases the dealer chucked the keys at me and said "take it home so your wife can see it" (which meant a total of about 90 mins each time). It was an independant dealer though, not an official Ford one.

Id say the drive you got was pretty sh**!

In asnwer to your question, yes most are.

But, when I test drove the Cup, after a few insurance niggles, in that I had to insure the car myself as Im under 25, I test drove it on A-B and Motorway roads.

Touched over 100mph in it and the salesman and my big brother were both in there and loving it.

Thats probably the best test drive ive had. Although when I went for the Mk4 Golf test drive, that was pretty good as well.

My test drive was with Davis @ Sevenoaks.

had no worries with renault birmingham! the sales bloke understood exactly wher ei was comin from and knew exactly wot people wanted from atest drive ie test the car a drive it how u want! it even made me go back 2 yrs later wen i wanted a new clio but unfortunatly never had the model i wanted in black!

but as for crap dealers! keep away from walker renault in stourbridge! they tried sellin me a car which looked like it had grazed along side a wall from front to back, them blamed the parts van that just left which was utter crap cus u could see where they tried to hide it with t cut! this was after they sold the car i had put a deposit on 2 days before!

the sales side when i bought mine was spot on (Renault Bolton). Since then everytime ive been to Reno Altrincham, who can only be described as, clueless and arrogant.

so yup, in my experience, rubbish!

And putting £2 petrol in?! thats a joke.

Liftnub - got my 172 from wests too - same as i was out in it for about an hour. sealed my sale! Wests are spot on - small family run franchise much better than the likes of Camden etc

I agree about Walker Renault Stourbridge, they are crap and so are Kidderminster Renault (part of the same group), they threw me off their site last week for looking at a 182, I was about 2 metres from it and they accused me of trying to mess with it, I hadnt even gone near it as it was going to a customer and I know how I would feel about my car. But there was no need for them to go off on one and throw me off the site! I was really p1ssed at them.

WHen I was buying me 172, Renault Wolverhampton took me literally round a single block of the dealer at 30 mph lasting 3-4 minutes, was well gutted.

On the other end of the scale, test drove a ctr last week and the sales man took me out first and scared the sh1t out of me by driving the car like a nutter at 90 mph through slough! Then I got in and had a good old drive, at one point i asked him which way to go back to the dealer and he said he didnt know where he was and to keep driving as the more time he spent out of the dealer the less work he would do.

Then I test drove a 182 at renault Slough and they told me I couldnt take it over 4k but had a long test drive, so I have had a really varied experience! It definitely makes a difference if you look older and dress smart though in my experience!

I am 40 years old with shirt and tie on as I took a break from work! It wasnt that!

He saw me pull up in my 03 BMW M3! Cant say that I couldnt afford one!

Maybe it was because I mentioned that I was test driving other hot hatches and wasnt going to sign on the dotted line there and then!!!!???

Put it this way, I dont expect him to ring me back!!!

Great customer service!

i work for renault as a technician and i cant even get a road test of a 182 !

as for that only letting u drive 30-40mph etc id go back and ask for a proper road test if you are genuinely intrested in buying a 182 there really nice cars, but we do get alot of ppl just wanting to thrash the ti-ts off them, which i can understand lol

I suspect its a reg vardy thing.

I bought my cup from rv Darlington and I first test drove one in December and as you say they put £2 petrol in it and I pootled about town for 15 mins. Said I wanted to come back for a proper test drive and they were iffy as I hadnt shown much commitment to buy.

Went back on impulse in Feb and drove the same car onthe same route, but booted it a bit more. I then Told them I wanted the car but didnt sign anything (no deposit as I was trading a car worth more than the cup) and went back a couple of days later to say I was having second thoughts and ask for another spin and this time they laet me take it out and absolutely kane it! This was how I discovered:

1) How much fun the cup is
2) That the car has a change up light:devilish:
3) How much fun it is messing them around for a change!

Probably depends on your attitude when when you turn up at the dealers.

If say your chewing gum, whereing a baseball cap and hooded top and go in and just say "can I have a test drive in that" then obviosly the dealers not going to take you seriously. Where as if you turn up looking smart and ask questions about the irrelevant car before you ask for a test drive the dealer is more likley to think hes got a potential sale so will be more helpful.
